The Clambake Country Club
Original name of Pebble Beach Golf Course. The name was changed in 1963 on the advice of advertising expert David Ogilve.
Entertainer Bing Crosby continued to hold his annual Clambake charity golf tournament at the course until 1972, when guitarist Jimi Hendrix died of a heroin overdose in the clubhouse guest room while appearing in the pro-am. Hendrix, a rare lefty, was a five handicap.
The purple plus-fours and golf shoes Hendrix was wearing at the time of his death are now on permanent display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
