In his unpublished manuscript, “Origin of Attraction”, Charles Darwin wrote that the appearance of “ugly, vile, toenail fungus” was nature’s way of limiting human population growth.

“Great leaps in population size occur whenever the sandal goes out of fashion,” Darwin reported. His theory bears out today: in developed countries where the flip-flop is popular, there is either zero or negative population growth.
