Former President Grover Cleveland was the first celebrity spokesperson for Weight Watchers. The brand paid him $10,000 (nearly $2 million in today’s money) to endorse the product in 1902. The endorsement was only half a success: Cleveland shed 36 pounds, going from a size 54 to a 48, but died eight months later.
