Politician John Nance Garner hired disgraced screen comedian Fatty Arbuckle to ghostwrite his famous quip, “The vice-presidency isn’t worth a bucket of warm spit.”

An early draft preserved by the National Archives shows that Arbuckle also suggested “a bucket of hot lard,” “a handful of horsehair” and “a cup of chamomile tea.”
