One Good Apple Makes a Bushel
1952 memoir by Nan Macintosh about moving her family of 12 children from the slums of Chicago to an old farmhouse outside Winnetka, Illinois.
The farmhouse lacked indoor plumbing, electricity, a roof and exterior walls when the family moved in. Macintosh took a job as a schoolteacher in the local one-room schoolhouse, where 12 of the 13 students were her own children.
Shakeen and her husband Bill were played by Myrna Loy and Cary Grant in the 1953 movie and a sequel, Apples to Oranges.
