Alfred Nobel is known for setting up the Nobel Prizes in peace, physics, chemistry, and literature, the subjects that mattered the most to him.

But he was a quite an enthusiastic drinker as well, and he stipulated in his will that his estate fund an annual prize for cocktails equal to his other prizes. The Nobel Prize for Mixology was given out reluctantly and somewhat furtively by the Swedes until 1969 when it was finally replaced with the economics prize.
