Teddy Roosevelt kept a pet anaconda, “Sweetie,” in the White House bathtub. He captured the snake during a trip to oversee construction work on the Panama Canal. (Sweetie was the real reason William Howard Taft had a new bathtub installed when he became president. Taft had a deathly fear of snakes.)
