The Early Ambassadors of the Tour de France

During the first dozen years of the famed Tour de France, the winner not only received a generous 1,000 franc prize but also an ambassadorship to the country of their choice.

After the first World War, the inclusion for the ambassadorship was dropped due to the increasing involvement of non-French riders.
