The ghosts of long-dead horses are said to haunt the “mews” or stables near Grosvenor Place that have been turned into some of London’s most-fashionable (though tiny) houses. Some homeowners report smelling manure and waking up with the taste of hay in their mouths. Others hear the sound of hooves on the wooden floors and say they have been awakened by a nearby snort or whinny.
