If you have ever been to Seattle’s famed Pike Place Market you might have noticed that the fishmongers always throw their wares to each other underhanded.

That is because of a law passed during the Northwest Fish Riots of 1932 making it illegal in the state of Washington to throw fish overhand or in any other “threatening or intimidating” manner.
