Capitalizing on their fame from the 1960s sitcom The Addams Family, Yvonne DeCarlo (Morticia) and John Astin (Gomez) starred together in the groundbreaking 1967 TV movie Lois and Clark.

DeCarlo portrayed explorer Meriwether Lewis as a drag queen who conquered the continent in a buckskin skirt, with Clark his broad-minded co-captain and former lover. The film co-starred Gore Vidal as Thomas Jefferson and Dihann Carroll as Sally Heming.

The final scene, in which Lewis is overcome by nail polish fumes and dies in a roadside inn, was one of the decade’s most controversial TV moments.
