Minnesota is called the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes, but there are really many more than that.

So many, that until the mid-1950s the First National Bank of St. Paul gave new customers a free deed to a lake upon opening a savings account. To this day many of the lakes of Minnesota are privately owned by these “Lakers” (of basketball fame) and their descendents.
